Meta has announced their new VR headset, Meta Quest Pro. It promises a more immersive virtual reality experience than Meta Quest 2, with a higher resolution display, lighter headset, and a new bundled Quest Touch Pro controller. It’s also coming on October 25, with pre-orders open now.
Cons: it will cost you £1500/$1500 compared to the Quest 2’s £400, with Meta saying the headset is designed for business, not gaming.
Meta – formerly Facebook – unveiled the headset today during its keynote at Meta Connect 2022, a day-long virtual event focused on augmented and virtual reality, and the “metaverse”, the name selected for Mark Zuckerberg’s Second Life.
Quest Pro’s specifications seems to include 4x more resolution than Mission 2. In real terms, official blog post says that means 37% more pixels per inch and 10% more pixels per degree than its VR predecessor.
Meta says that the new lenses in the headset will produce better contrast in images, while the new Quest Pro Touch controllers will provide more movement through the cameras included in each controller.
While price is an obstacle and Meta says the headset is designed for business purposes, Quest Pro is fully backwards compatible with all Meta Quest 2 games and apps.
