Mercedes-Benz to launch 10 models in India by 2023
Mercedes-Benz India on Friday announced that it has planned 10 launches this calendar year with the first of these being the Mercedes AMG E53 Cabriolet going on sale on the same day.
Much of Mercedes’ focus this year will be on its most premium models, and these models will be a major part of the launch plan. Speaking to HT Auto, Santosh Iyer, MD and CEO, explained that overall demand remains strong, with premium models getting even more traction. “We continue to have a diverse product portfolio and also plan to launch 10 products this year. The majority of these will be top-of-the-line cars like the Maybach and AMG because demand is so high here,” he said.

Provide on-time delivery
Mercedes has worked to not only expand its luxury vehicle lineup, but also diversify its portfolio to include electric vehicles and high-performance models. But Iyer admits that delivery deadlines can still be a concern. “Our car waiting time is now between three and nine months. It’s not ideal and we remain committed to solving it,” he said, adding that although the Pune plant is operating at full capacity, supply-side constraints remain and often beyond Mercedes’ control due to geopolitical issues and Covid-related factors.
But Iyer also predicts that supply-side challenges will continue to ease. “We’re transparent with our customers and that’s the best way of doing things right now,” he said, noting how much better sales could be if all else were normal.
Coming back after a best year ever in the country, in terms of sales and production, Mercedes is still determined to stay on top. “We will continue to grow at double digits while focusing on making our business more sustainable. We will expand our charging stations while 30% of our franchise partners will run entirely on green energy by the end of the year,” emphasized Iyer.
