The Mercedes-Benz Metris will no longer be sold in the US after 2023, end vans short run in the United States. It’s too small to be as useful as the larger Sprinter, and too big to be considered utilitarian like the smaller Ford Transit.
The Metris also failed to find an audience among buyers looking for passenger vans because of the reported low quality inland. Dealers even say some Metris models don’t deserve to wear the Mercedes badge. Noisy.
But not every Mercedes-Benz has to be an S-Class. It’s just an association that Mercedes has built up over the years in the US, while overseas markets include mundane car from the car manufacturer. Now, Mercedes told dealer that the four-cylinder gasoline engine used in the commercial Metris and Sprinter will be discontinued. The I4 gasoline engine used in commercial trucks comes from Nissan and is manufactured in Tennessee. Are from that production is revolving around electric cars, engines are being phased out. The Sprinter isn’t going away, but will only be sold with diesel after 2023. Losing the gas engine shouldn’t be a big deal as dealers claim diesel models make up 75% of the company’s sales. Sprinter. With eSprinter too going forward, there’s no reason to keep the petrol I4 and Metris engines alive.
Sprinter will personally carry the commercial van torch for Mercedes-Benz in the US. Unlike the Metris, the Sprinter has been well received in the US, the second-largest commercial truck market after Germany.
The only thing left for Mercedes-Benz Metris is to complete a multi-year contract with 30,000 models USPS, and when that’s done, Metris will be out. Goodbye, Metris. We hardly know you.
