Mercedes-Benz EQE EV SUV launched; Powertrain, platform, design, features


The EV SUV will compete with the newly refreshed Audi e-tron and the BMW iX.

Mercedes-Benz unveiled the EQE SUV in three versions and two AMG versions. This will be the 9th electric model of the German automaker and the second most expensive EQ model, behind the EQS SUV.

Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV: the platform

The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV will be the fourth vehicle based on the brand’s EVA (electric vehicle architecture) platform, following EQS sedan, EQE sedan and EQS SUV.

Standard EQE models will come with a steel suspension featuring adaptive dampers. Buyers will be able to order an optional air suspension, standard equipment on AMG models. Other developments include electric motor-assisted roll stabilization and four-wheel steering – which supports rear wheel rotation of up to 10 degrees (nine degrees on AMG models).

Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV: powertrain

The entry-level EQE 350+ SUV will come with a single engine, rear-wheel drive, producing 292 hp and 565 Nm of torque. The base model has a range of up to 590 km on the WLTP cycle. Sitting above is the EQE 350 4Matic, which also produces 292 hp but has 765 Nm of torque. It has a range of up to 558 km on the WLTP cycle. The top non-AMG equipment will be the EQE 500 4Matic with 408 hp and 858 Nm of torque. It will have a range of up to 547km on the WLTP cycle. EQE 350 4Matic and EQE 500 4Matic will have four-wheel drive, dual-motor.

The Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ will also receive the Dynamic Plus package.

Mercedes-AMG will also be available in two versions – the EQE 43 4Matic and the EQE 53 4Matic+ – and both will have all-wheel drive. The former produces 476hp and 858hp, with a range of up to 488km on the WLTP cycle. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 210 km/h.

The top-of-the-line Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ produces 625hp and 950Nm of torque. It also gets a Dynamic Plus package that boosts power to 687hp and 1000Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of up to 240 km/h, with the Dynamic Plus package.

All models are equipped with a 90.6kWh lithium-ion battery that supports DC fast charging speeds of up to 170kW.

Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV: exterior design

Stylistically, it adheres closely to the look established by the larger EQS SUV, albeit with a sloping roofline and more angular tailgate. AMG models receive their own styling cues, including a new-look Panamerican grille, redesigned bumpers and unique wheel designs among other changes.

The five-seater SUV will have two different dashboard layout options. The flagship ‘Hyperscreen’, which supports up to three individual screens in a 1410mm wide panel, is offered as a high-cost option.

The display works in conjunction with the in-house developed MBUX operating system, which provides conversational commands via the “Hey Mercedes” prompt as well as software update functionality via an embedded SIM card.

EQE SUV will compete with the car that is about to be refreshed Audi e-tron and BMW iX electric SUV. While both of its rivals are available in India, there is no confirmation on when it will be available here.
