Mercedes Benz EQB electric SUV: India debut, range, powertrain, performance and rivals

EQB will be the first 7-seater electric vehicle in India; promises a range of up to 419km on a single charge.
We have got Report in July that Mercedes-Benz will launch the EQB EV 7-seat SUV in the Indian market by the end of 2022. Now, a spy photo of the electric SUV has surfaced, hinting that it will be launched here soon. . EQB will be Mercedes’ third electric vehicle in India, following EQC SUV and recently released EQS sedan. Based on the ICE-powered GLB, it will also be India’s first 7-seater EV.
Mercedes Benz EQB: exterior and interior
Since it is based on the GLB, the EQB retains the basic design of its ICE counterpart. However, there are a few factors that make it stand out. It features EV-specific details such as a blanked front grille, along with a different headlight design. In line with other Mercedes EQ models, the electric SUV features full-width LED light bars at the front and at the rear.
On the inside, except for a patch of gold paint on the turbine-like vents, the EQB’s interior looks exactly like the GLB, which in turn looks like GLA currently on sale here.
Mercedes Benz EQB: battery, powertrain and range
Globally, the EQB comes in two variants with different power outputs – the EQB 300 produces 228hp and the EQB 350 produces a healthier 292hp. Both variants use a 66.5kWh battery that offers the same claimed range of up to 419km (WLTP). Mercedes-Benz has yet to reveal which of the two variants we will get in India. To control costs, Mercedes-Benz will likely opt for the lower-powered EQB 300.

Mercedes Benz EQB: expected launch date, price and competitors
Mercedes-Benz India is preparing to launch the EQB in December 2022 and it will most likely be imported CBU. With an estimated price of Rs 80 lakh, it will be considerably cheaper than EQC (Rs 99.5 lakh) but a bit more expensive than the Volvo XC40 Recharge (Rs 55.90 lakh).
The automaker will also bring the GLB to India in early December. As a complete import car, the GLB will likely be priced between Rs 65 lakh-70 lakh. For more details, you can read our report here.
