Police learned that the nude body of a woman was found in the village of Jonti – 13 kilometers from the accident site – while they were investigating Anjali Singh’s abandoned scooter.

The FIR, filed at 5 a.m., said police were trying to track down the owner from the vehicle’s number plate. Lokesh tells them that he lent the car to Ashutosh, who informed the police about Khannas. He said, both took his car in the evening.

Ashutosh immediately called Deepak and Amit Khanna, who told the police they were drunk when they hit the woman. Deepak Khanna is driving and Manoj Mittal is sitting beside him.

Deepak Khanna said they found the woman’s body trapped under the car when they stopped near the village of Jonti. They left the body there and drove back to Ashutosh’s house and left the car there.

However, the account of events in the FIR differs from that of an eyewitness.

Deepak Dahiya, a local confectioner, told NDTV that he saw the accident and the woman was trapped under the car. He shouted, asking them to stop and when they refused, he used a two-wheeler to give chase. He said he also called the police control room and informed the police, but they didn’t pay any attention.

“I told the PCR trucks (Police Control Room) and pointed at the vehicle, but they didn’t even try to catch it,” he told NDTV.

Mr. Dahiya said he called the police 20 times in 90 minutes. During that time, the car continuously turned its head 3 times and then returned to the scene, the body of the car entangled in the undercarriage.

Anjali Singh’s family has alleged that she was sexually assaulted, an allegation that police have denied.

Union Interior Minister Amit Shah ordered an investigation into the matter, which caused a shockwave across the country during the New Year.

Sources said the investigation has been entrusted to Delhi senior police officer Shalini Singh and a report must be sent to the Union Home Ministry as soon as possible.
