Mel C pulls out of Poland new year gig over ‘issues that do not align with communities I support’ | Ents & Arts News

Mel C pulled out of a gig in Poland, saying she was aware of some issues that weren’t appropriate for the community she supports.

The singer, whose real name is Melanie Chisholm, is scheduled to perform for Polish state television on New Year’s Eve as a special guest.

She told fans on social media that she won’t be performing anymore.

“Due to some issues that caught my attention, which didn’t fit the community I support, I’m afraid I won’t be able to perform in Poland as planned on New Year’s Eve,” she said.

“I hope to be back there soon.”

Sky News has approached a representative for Chisholm for comment.

While it’s unclear what the problem is, Chisholm is widely known as a major ally of the LGBTQ+ community.

At last year’s British LGBT Awards, Chisholm was awarded the Famous Allies.

Poland was recently found to have the worst protections for LGBTQ+ people in the European Union, according to the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Association.

Same-sex marriage is not recognized in the Catholic-majority country, while some regions of Poland have enacted largely symbolic same-sex freedom zones, prompting ambassadors from more than 50 countries. oppose this move.

President Andrzej Duda also vowed to ban LGBTQ+ teaching in schools, as well as prevent same-sex couples from adopting children.

Broadcaster TVP did not comment on Chisholm’s cancellation, but removed the post announcing her performance from their social media accounts.
