For the April issue of Game Info magazine, we took a behind-the-scenes look at Hyper Light Breaker, the latest game from the developer Heart Machine. In addition to an interview with Creative Director Alx Preston, we get to see exclusive footage of one of the game’s mini-bosses, The Last Master. Check out the reveal below.
The Ultimate Master is a dangerous opponent that randomly appears when the player (in this world known as the Destroyer) activates a beacon, an item that allows them to access the main boss portal. If you think she looks similar to the player characters, you’ve got it right; in the video, Preston says “She ended up here in this land as a Disrupter and succumbed to the dangers of Overgrowth.” Thus, The Last Master’s arsenal mirrors yours, using automatic swords, spears, and pistols. Her behavior also mirrors those of spoilers, and she can dash, jump, and climb after anyone who tries to escape.
While the first game in the Hyper Light franchise is a 2D single-player experience, the new title is a 4-player rogue-lite co-op, with a procedurally generated new open world on each turn. Players will create a Breaker, explore the cursed land called Overgrowth and try to destroy the bosses that are plaguing this kingdom known as the Crowns.
