McEvoy wins Melbourne Cup for Deauville Legends

Kerrin McEvoy | Emma Berry

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy is likely to ride his favorite G1 Melbourne Cup The Legend of Deauville (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) during the two-mile race in Flemington on November 1, announced by coach James Ferguson.

“McEvoy has been confirmed,” said Ferguson, who has worked with McEvoy for many years. “He has won the race three times and knows his way around Flemington. He is a very good friend of mine and we have worked together a lot in the past.”

The two-time gelding winning group will soon be placed in quarantine. Racing in the colors of KK Ho, Deauville Legend won the G2 Great Voltigeur S. in mid-August.

Ferguson added: “He’s in good shape and it’s exciting to have a Melbourne Cup favorite going there. “We were right to give him a bit of a half-time break and then because he’s had a long season and I think he’ll go down there as fit as possible.

“He will probably gallop at the racecourse on Friday and then we’ll put him in quarantine on Monday.”
