McConaughey has just chosen his political party. Big mistake

Matthew McConaughey is a man above most political celebrities.

He doesn’t spit out fire and brimstone like the director Rob Reiner or Alyssa Milano. Nor does he bend the truth until it bends like a twig, like The “Watch” server does it on a regular basis.

The Oscar winner is calm, measured and doesn’t want to upset the Left or the Right.

In a way, he’s everything we want in a celebrity who’s always on the lookout for the issues of the day. Except that he just made the biggest mistake of his semi-political life.

He chose a side. And he chose badly for a variety of reasons.

McConaughey’s recent call for gun control, delivered through an existing White House invitation, will not be easily forgotten. His policy proposals proved generic and unlikely to have an impact on gun violence.

Then again, why would anyone expect the “Dallas Buyers Club” star to set any bold new agenda? He’s an actor, not a gun control expert. He brings a layman’s feel to the subject, meaning there is little reason for him to even be on such an important political stage.

It’s one thing for a celebrity to share the heat on Twitter. It was another travel to Washington, D.C., and the demand was arguably fueled by the appeal of the State of the Union address.

Characters like John Lott and Dana Loesch have had to carry guns for years, if not decades. Agreeing or disagreeing with their opinions, they researched the topic actively and offered sobering insights.

What did McConaughey do to measure?

More importantly, the star has carefully drawn the line between Democrats and Republicans in recent years. He was teased running for governor of TexasPut yourself in different stories along the way.

And he did so without picking a party. It was not an accident.

The adoption of general gun control measures, from all over the White House podium in Biden, changed that. And he did it at just the right moment when Team Biden was on its heels, hit by terrible polling numbers and facing a Red Wave coming in November.

It is not politically smart to back the wrong horse.

McConaughey not only chose a political side, but did so at the worst possible time. The Democratic Party today is not the same party that President Barack Obama led a few years ago.

It is angry, uncompromising, and dependent on its far Left base. And that seems to conflict with everything the actor stands for.

The modern left looks the other way when their faction commits political violence, or secretly beat it in. It nodded gently like Protesters poured into the homes of the Supreme Court Justicesassuming the legitimate eagles lean to the Right.

McConaughey’s “new” side usually claim abortion until birthcheer Censorship Big Tech and Cancel Culture champion.

The actor may not adopt those extreme measures, but his new party does. And how will Democrats implement McConaughey’s kinder, gentler approach? They will rage against his readiness protect Trump voters, as he has done in the past. They will be hasty because of his inability to destroy the other side.

Conservatives put out a bigger tent today, seeing Dr. Oz’s first win in Pennsylvania. Or, closer to Hollywood, see how the Right brought together left-wing comics like Ricky Gervais, Joe Rogan, and Dave Chappelle.

No one who fights for Rogan is stronger than the Right, and even he admits that much.

The Republican Party may have made room for a centrist soul who just happened to be a movie star. Democrats may cheer McConaughey as he pushes for more gun control measures, but every time he opens his mouth, they’ll demand that he shut the door and hurry.

Those who are new to politics will soon learn that lesson.
