So with some eagerness, I went to Mazda’s UK headquarters in Kent to collect the newly updated CX-5. It’s too early to think about the economy, but this car has a claimed average fuel consumption of 46mpg and so far I’m managing just under 40mpg. I’m optimistic that as the number of longer journeys increases, I’ll get closer to the official figure – and maybe even surpass it.

But if I do, I’ll need to handle myself on B-roads – and that’s more complicated than you might expect, because the well-arranged, somewhat firm suspension keeps the CX-5 in control. much better body control. than most of its rivals.
