Mayweather says Spence vs. Crawford reports ‘untrue’ ending trading for October

Via Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. has denied any truth to reports that welterweight champions Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford “closed a deal” for their October fight in Las Vegas.

One of ESPN’s eager reporters posted that the match between Spence and Crawford was over in October, but apparently, the reporter jumped the gun.

Mayweather knew Al Haymon well and had inside information about what was going on with the Spence-Crawford fight, and he said the report was “incorrect.”

Chris Williams was not surprised when reporting on the match between Spence vs. Crawford “closing a deal” is untrue because that would be a near-impossible thing to do.

With a 147-lb IBF/WBA/WBC champion, Spence (28-0.22 KOs) is a significantly more pay-per-view attraction, holds more titles than Crawford, and fills stadiums , it’s a fight that will be very difficult to make.

In the end, how badly WBO welterweight champion Crawford (38-0.29 KOs) wanted to fight Spence. If the Nebraska Indian wanted the war badly enough, he wouldn’t pay the price by asking for the moon and the stars.

Crawford leaned against the wall when it came to negotiating with Spence.

If Crawford doesn’t accept the offer, he’ll have a tough time coming up against Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis soon, which will be an uphill battle to win for the 34-year-old.

Even if Crawford were younger, it would have been a tough claim for him to beat Boots Ennis, but now he’s pushed 35 and is working on inactivity issues, fighting only once a year, he will confront the lion cub.

Please do not post this as it is NOT trueFloyd Mayweather Jr. said on social media about news released by ESPN on Friday about the fight between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford in October.

“Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford is end a deal for an undisputed welterweight title match in October in Las Vegas, sources told ESPN. No deal yet, but no real stumbling block. PBC PPV for this genuine super fight,” said Mike Coppinger above Twitter.

It’s boring how different people are constantly reporting on how Spence-Crawford is supposed to be close, and fans setting their hopes and then dashing when the fight doesn’t happen.

It’s better for reporters eager to focus on doing the right thing than trying to be the first and look silly when it turns out to be fake news.

Chris Williams really doubts the fight will happen unless Crawford comes down to earth. Like I said, his alternatives weren’t good with Boots Ennis coming to him. It would be good for Crawford if the fight with Spence happened because if he fought Ennis, the fight would be over.

Moving up to 154 won’t be a piece of cake for Crawford either as he will have to deal with these young killers:

  • Tim Tszyu
  • Sebastian Fundora
  • Jermell Charlo
  • Brian Castano
  • Israil Madrimov
  • Erickson Lubin
