Maxi Hughes criticizes ‘arrogant’ Ingle gym ahead of Galahad kids game

Maxi Hughes didn’t hold back with his comments about the famous Ingle gym ahead of his showdown with their Kid Galahad charge this Saturday night at Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield.

Hughes, who will put his IBO world title first, told Doncaster Free Press he always sensed a certain arrogance from the gym-goers, headed by Dom Ingle, son of legendary trainer Brendan.

“I respect him as a boxer and that’s where it stops.”

“I found Ingle a bit arrogant and rude. They seem to have a chip on their shoulder.”

“They look down on you.”

Hughes, a Rossington native, has enjoyed an incredible renaissance in the past few years of his career, winning six straight games and making his name at the top of the domestic lightweight division.

And he’ll be hoping to catch former featherweight world champion Galahad at the right moment, as he returns to the ring for the first time since a terrifying knockout loss at the hands of Kiko Martinez last November.

“He will say he has no devil, but that kind of knockout will bring the devil in.”

“He’s going to have the devil on his chin – can he capture it? Did that dent his confidence?

The clash between Hughes and Galahad will now be at the forefront of the bill in Sheffield, with Leigh Wood vs Mauricio Lara postponed due to biceps injury suffered by the man of Nottingham.

With both men now 32 years old, it seems difficult to reimagine the loser of Saturday night’s spotlight games. That said, the bets on this particular Yorkshire derby couldn’t be much higher.
