Max Scherzer in 15 Days of IL Existing: ‘This is a day not a week’

The New York Mets have seen them a double-digit game lead in the East NL disappeared, as they entered Wednesday with the division-leading Atlanta Braves. They had lost three games in a row and were overtaken by the two worst teams in baseball (Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh Pirates) 22-4 in the slip.

Now, they lost one of their wounded teammates on the wounded list.

This will be Scherzer’s second on IL in his first season in New York, after he missed the start of the year with a oblique problem. Three-time winner Cy Young signed a three-year, $130 million deal with the Mets in December 2021.

If Scherzer actually returns when qualifying for the first time on September 19, he will only miss two starts. It was the first time all year that the defending World Series champion Braves had at least one share of the first place in the tournament.

The hard throw had 20 starts in 2022, a 9-4 record with 2.26 ERA and 0.92 WHIP, and scored 153 shots in 127 2/3 plays.
