Mauricio Sulaiman now calls Devin Haney a WBC 135 lb champion Boxing News 24
Via Charles Brun: WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman appears to have changed his mind as he now refers to Devin Haney as a “WBC World Lightweight Champion” after earlier this week calling him a “Proud WBC Champion.” and called George Kambosos Jr. “The Undisputed Champion”.
Ever since Sulaiman announced that Haney is the WBC Pride champion and the IBF/WBA/WBC Franchise/WBO 135-lb Kambosos Jr champion is the “undisputed” champion, he’s received enthusiasm from boxing fans, including Devin.
After that, Haney appeared on social media and said that he wanted Sulaiman to make him mandatory for Kambosos because his WBC belt is a “junior” version of the Franchise belt that George is holding. .
On Wednesday, Sulaiman made it somewhat clear that Haney is the WBC World lightweight champion. However, Sulaiman does not mention Kambosos for some reason.
If he still calls Kambosos “the undisputed lightweight champion,” that means Haney’s title isn’t what it seems.
Kambosos shouldn’t be called the undisputed champion until he’s beaten Haney for the WBC belt because the Franchise title is non-transferable.
I’m so proud of ours @WBCBoxing lightweight champion @Realdevinhaney who has an exemplary journey

Here’s what Kambosos himself lists on his Twitter account:
“IBF, WBO, WBA, WBC Franchise & Ring Magazine Undisputed World Champion 🌏 undefeated 20-0 10KO 🥊 Cruel Promotion CEO 🇬🇷🇦🇺. ”
You can’t blame Kambosos for listing yourself as “Undisputed World Champion“Because Sulaiman is calling him that, it means the WBC recognizes him as a four-belt champion and Haney as a junior.
Unfortunately, Sulaiman never explained what WBC Champion “Pride” is, in addition to what he called Haney earlier this week. If it’s the extra belt that Haney is holding, Sulaiman should come out and tell the fans.
If Haney fought the Kambosos next, none of this would ever happen. The winner of the fight will be the undisputed lightweight champion in a practical sense, and no one can criticize that. But until then, Kambosos won’t be recognized by all fans as the undisputed champion until he beats Haney.
Likewise, some boxing fans will view Haney’s WBC title as “small” title due to Sulaiman calling him the “Pride” champion and later calling Kambosos the undisputed champion.
This week, Haney said that he plans to rise to 140 after battling the Kambosos, meaning he will vacate four lightweight titles if he wins.
If Haney doesn’t hold the 135 lb title, he shouldn’t make a big deal about his condition. Haney promoter Eddie Hearn recently said that Devin will defend four belts against Vasily Lomachenko, but I guess that won’t happen.
Many boxing fans doubt that Haney will have a risky match with Lomachenko if he beats Kambosos because it is a bad style match for him.
