The days are ticking until Donald Trump takes office 47th President of the United States. Meanwhile, more details have been shared about his planned mass deportation and birthright citizenship. But how realistic are they?

More on Donald Trump’s mass deportation plan and birthright citizenship

According to Burns-Tucker, during Trump’s first term as president, his administration is believed to have deported about 1.5 million people. Meanwhile, thousands of children were separated from their parents at the US/Mexico border.

Furthermore, as the president-elect awaits reelection, he shared how he plans to increase those numbers in his second term.

“…Call for a national emergency, and [sending out] military to enforce immigration laws, invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807 to overcome legal barriers and strengthen the Department of Defense’s role in operations,” Burns-Tucker explains.

Is the President-elect’s plan realistic? Or just rhetoric?

It is reported that Trump’s focus will be on deporting immigrants who are “committing crimes” in the country. Burns-Tucker noted that convicted immigrants were scheduled to be deported to their home countries after they completed their sentences. However, Trump may be breaking new ground as he and his team are drawing up a list of countries that will accept deportees if they are not brought home.

“The list of potential locations to which these people could be returned includes countries such as Turks and Caicos, Panama and the Bahamas,” Burns-Tucker explains.
