Maruti Suzuki has finally revealed the Jimny for the Indian market and it has a 5-door avatar. Everyone is eagerly waiting for Jimny to launch in India. Jimny’s biggest competitor, Mahindra Thar, is doing very well in the Indian market. Recently, Mahindra launched a more affordable version of Thar to make it more competitive after the launch of Jimny. Below is a comparison between Mahindra Thar and Maruti Suzuki Jimny.

Jimny measures 3,985 mm long, 1,645 mm wide and 1,720 mm high. The Thar is 3,985 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and 1,850 mm high. While the length of both SUVs is the same, the Thar is taller and wider. However, when it comes to the wheelbase, the Jimny has a longer wheelbase of 145 mm at 2,590 mm. However, the Thar has a higher ground clearance of 226 mm.

Regarding engine options, Jimny is only offered with a 1.5-liter K15B petrol engine. It produces 103 hp and 134 Nm of torque. It comes with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It comes with a four-wheel drive as standard.

On the other hand, Mahindra Thar is offered with three engine options. There is a 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.2-litre diesel.
The 1.5-liter engine produces 113 hp and 300 Nm of peak torque. It comes with a 6-speed manual transmission that only drives the rear wheels. The 2.2-liter diesel engine produces 128 horsepower and maximum torque of 300 Nm while the 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine produces 148 horsepower and maximum torque of up to 320 Nm. . Both engines come with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. These engines also come with standard four-wheel drive.

The Thar comes with a tire pressure monitoring system, adventure stats, 18-inch alloy wheels, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, roof-mounted speakers and a 7-inch infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Jimny has 6 airbags, engine start / stop button, headlight wash system, automatic LED headlights and a 9-inch infotainment system that supports Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs Mahindra Thar: Price
Thar starts from $9.99 lakh for the rear-wheel drive variant. Four-wheel drive variants starting at $13.59 lakh and up to $16.29 thousand. All prices mentioned are old showroom. Jimny’s price has yet to be announced. However, it is expected to start from somewhere around $10-12 thousand. Maruti Suzuki has opened reservations for $11,000 at their Nexa dealers.
