Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door base variant spotted ahead of April launch

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny The 5-door version is one of the most awaited launches of the year, and we got a look at the top-spec variants at the recently concluded Auto Expo 2023. But terrain enthusiasts are looking forward to the simple base variant that allows for a wide range of modifications. With still a few months to go, the base variant of the 5-door Jimny was recently spotted completely undisguised. Here’s a look at what it has to offer.

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the Jimny will come in two variants – Zeta and Alpha – at the time of launch. This could be the Zeta variant and the downgrade is obvious. The alloy wheels have been swapped for 15-inch steel wheels, wrapped in 195/80 R15 tyres. The hard case cover for the spare wheel has been replaced with a cloth cover. The 5-door Jimny Zeta variant also omits projector-lens headlights and a headlight wash system instead of conventional halogen headlights. LED daytime running lights and fog lights are also omitted.

That said, the Jimny 5-door Zeta variant gets body-colored door handles, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and black trim around the wheel arches for a solid look. Inside, the cabin continues to be equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, while the seats are upholstered in fabric. Other standard features include steering wheel-mounted controls, MID device, manual HVAC unit, etc.

Power will come from a 1.5-liter K-Series petrol engine tuned for 103 hp at 6,000 rpm and 134.2 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed torque converter. Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro four-wheel drive system will be standard equipment on off-road vehicles. The new 5-door Jimny is expected to be launched in April this year and the model will be sold through Nexa stores.
