My wife and I are looking to bring home our first car and after extensive research we have shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Sigma MT, priced at Rs 13 lakh in the city of I (Chennai). Since we’ve read mixed reviews about the car’s performance, can you shed some light on whether it’s a good choice? The car will only be used in the city, and we are both new drivers.

Autocar India says: For the price, the Maruti Grand Vitara Sigma MT offers excellent value. Speaking of performance, the 1.5-litre petrol engine is tuned towards maximizing fuel efficiency rather than outright performance, so you’ll crave more powerful traction on the open road. However, for your purposes, which may include leisurely weekend outings and city commutes, the Grand Vitara’s gas level should suffice. Combined with the lightweight clutch and smooth transmission, it’s easy to drive. So according to your request, it is a good buy.
