Mark Zuckerberg says there will be more AI-generated content to fill your Facebook and Instagram feeds
First we have friends. Then we had influencers. And if Mark Zuckerberg is right, the next big thing on our social media feeds will be AI-generated content. So many.
Zuckerberg described our future feeds at Meta’s, Facebook’s parent company third quarter earnings conference call on Wednesday, describing it as a natural evolution.
“I think we will add a whole new category of content that is either AI-generated content or AI-generated summary content or existing content that is assembled by AI,” said the Meta CEO. together in some way.” “And I think that’s going to be very interesting for Facebook, Instagram and maybe Threads or other types of feed experiences over time.”
Zuckerberg introduced the company Llama large language model and the success of the products it supports, such as the Meta AI chatbot that is now used by more than 500 million users each month. But Llama will increasingly play an important role in Meta’s business, Zuckerberg said, including tools for business customers and advertisers.
As AI tools become more popular, AI content will proliferate in social media feeds. Zuckerberg noted that such feeds are being actively implemented within Meta. “It’s something we’re starting to test different things around.”
“I don’t know if we know exactly what will work well, but some things are really promising,” he added. “I’m very confident that in the next few years, this will be one of the important trends and one of the important applications.”
Zuckerberg describes this category as possibly the next wave of content for platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
Zuckerberg noted how platforms like Facebook and Instagram began recommending and curating content from users’ friends and family, what Meta calls a “connected” algorithm. Platforms then switched to engagement-based algorithms, recommending content from across platforms, mainly from creators and influencerswhich Meta targets individual users based on various “signals”.
Signs of the next phase of AI are already appearing.
Facebook is already a Meta platform where AI-generated content, sometimes called “sloppy AI,” is increasingly popular. Incredible images are created with viral target and generate payouts from Facebook’s creator program, which can be up to $10 for every 1,000 likes on a post, according to a report from 404 Media.
While such content is so far less popular on Instagram, it appears to be on the rise. A report by the newsletter User Mag discovered that an account claiming to be that of a restaurant advertises itself as “the #1 restaurant in Austin.” does not exist. The account is entirely AI-generated content with various photos of fake food and people, even one post with a generated image of Jeff Bezos claiming that Amazon billionaire was “behind the bar” of the restaurant because “One of our chefs happened to be friends with Jeff.”
Although the account’s subject matter is purely fictional and all content is AI-generated and not disclosed as such, it remains the same. In fact, since it was discovered to be just a fantasy, this account has gained about 10,000 new followers.
