Mark Muñoz put on leave from coaching job for letting kids box each other–report
MANILA, Philippines — UFC first-place fighter Mark Muñoz is reported to have been placed on administrative leave as a wrestling coach at a Southern California high school after allowing two students to fight each other with boxing gloves. .
TMZ reported that the Filipino-American boxer let two students settle the dispute by boxing. The report said he was unaware of the controversy and thought the boxing match was more “fun” than “violent”.
One parent was outraged by the incident and reported Muñoz to Fairmont Private School management.
In a statement to MMA Junkie, 44-year-old Muñoz said he wants to be a good influence on his students and teach them to be good wrestlers.
“With every bit of who I am, I aspire to be a positive influence on children, teach children to be the best wrestlers, speak out against bullying and glorify my Jesus Christ. ,” Munoz wrote to MMA Junkie reporter Danny Segura. “There are thousands of wrestlers I have coached that will assert those truths from first hand experience. In any case, I would encourage the children to resolve disputes through fighting. “
MMA Junkie added that an official at the Fairmont School said that Muñoz has been placed on administrative leave until the end of the school year and will not return to his job, where he was hired in September 2020.
Muñoz withdrew from the UFC in 2015 after defeating Luke Barnatt by unanimous decision in Fight Night 66 at Mall of Asia Arena.
