Mark Magsayo barely makes weight for WBC interim title fight vs Brandon Figueroa
MANILA, Philippines—Former champion Mark Magsayo barely gained any weight on Saturday ahead of his WBC featherweight interim title fight with Brandon Figueroa.
Magsayo had to try a second time just to get over the 126-pound limit while Figueroa crossed the scale at 125 and 3/4 pounds in the official weigh-in at the DoubleTree of the Hilton Hotel Ontario Airport in California.
Magsayo, 27, was three-quarters of a pound overweight on her first try and needed to lose the extra pounds in the two-hour period allowed by the California State Athletic Commission.
Magsayo made it through and officially weighed 126 pounds in qualifying.

Magsayo and Figueroa lead the Showtime Championship Boxing three-man match taking place at Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, USA.
A win over Magsayo (24-1, 16KOs) will give him a chance to regain the WBC world title against Rey Vargas, who defeated him by split decision last July at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Meanwhile, Figueroa (23-1-1, 18KOs), was about to stop the match in the sixth round against Carlos Castro also last July.
Figueroa, 26, the 3-1 favorite to beat Magsayo, is fighting for the second time in featherweight. He is a former WBC super bantamweight champion.
