Marble Easter Basket Name Tag (of air-dried clay!)

If you also watch movies parade year-round like me, you’re probably pretty excited that Easter is just around the corner. Now that I have kids of my own, it’s fun to take a vacation and find small projects that Lola and I can do together.

Using air-dried clay is a great way to create something special (and there’s very little mess involved, which is great too).

You can make this marble air-dried clay project easy to create decorations to hang around the house (hang single ones as ornaments or string several together into a wreath! ), but I thought it would be interesting to personalize the egg shapes so that they could be Easter basket cards instead.

And, air dry clay is easy to work with so you can make granite very easily and just like our popular clay Marble clay disc project, it’s really beautiful in just a few minutes. Plus dry time. Haha.

supply of dry clay in the air

Munition:
– dry clay (you can take larger single color packs like this or multicolor pack)
– wax paper or silicone mat to roll clay
stapler (non-stick, like silicone)
egg cookie cutter (or other Easter picture Like this Peeps a)
postage stamp set
-straw to make holes
-string or ribbon to tie the card
– fine sandpaper to smooth the edges (optional)

First, set up your stamp set (with the name you want it stamped on) so it’s ready to go.

Then, take two or three pieces of dry clay of the color you want to marble. You can cut pieces one at a time, or roll up a larger slab and then cut multiple pieces from the larger piece.

Roll short clay “snakes” in each color and then twist them together into a thread. Lay the fabric down on your rolling surface and use a rolling pin to smooth out the clay.

If you like that marbled pattern, continue cutting your shape with a cookie cutter, or you can roll it up into a few snakes, twist it, and see if you like that marbled pattern better first. when cutting.

Once you’ve cut the shape, pull off the excess and use a straw to poke a hole in the top to tie a string or ribbon in.

Press your name stamp into the clay (I like these clear set because you can see exactly where you are placing it) and let the clay dry completely.

The name is stamped on the clay egg that dries in the air

If there are some rough edges, you can smooth them out with fine sandpaper when dry. If not, your card is ready to use!

More ideas for decorating cards:

  • Make cards of the same color and then decorate with paint (or puff paint).
  • Leave them impervious to water until they dry and then stamp them with ink.
  • Use straws or other seals/objects to make dots or marks while the clay is still soft.

How cute are those?! They come together really quickly, and my 4-year-old had fun coloring and using an egg cutter to cut them out (we’ll make a wreath with her).

Hope this name card idea gives you a fun craft to do this Easter season! so so. Laura
