Via Allan Fox: Manny Pacquiao says a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr won’t happen because he’s “terrified” to fight him again.
Pacquiao said yesterday during his press conference for his exhibition match with DK Yoo that Mayweather was “frightened” in the face of him. Although Mayweather is only two years older than Pacquiao, he is not as old as the Filipino star.
Mayweather has lost the hand speed that made him famous and looks as slow as ice, and will be vulnerable against Pacquiao. At this point it won’t be a fair fight as Pacquiao is too fast for Mayweather to probably knock him down, even using large gauntlets.
To be sure, Mayweather has no interest in going up against Pacquiao again after beating him by unanimous decision of 12 dull rounds in ‘Fight of the Century’ in 2015.
While Mayweather may make more money fighting Pacquiao than he does in exhibition fights with badly overfit YouTubers, he doesn’t care.
Mayweather, 45, has focused on doing shows since ending his career with a win over UFC fighter Conor McGregor in 2018.
Surprisingly, that fight was recognized by Nevada as an official boxing match even though McGregor had never fought before.
“I don’t think that will happen because he was scared to death when facing me in the ring again,” Pacquiao said of Mayweather on Thursday at a Press Conference for his exhibition match with DK Yoo.
“He was scared. From the beginning, he felt threatened [by] me and scared to face me. “
Many boxing fans believe that Mayweather waited six years for Pacquiao to be old enough to beat him in 2015. Interestingly, Mayweather didn’t fight Pacquiao until he was beaten by Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez.
You could argue that if Mayweather had fought Pacquiao at the height of his career from 2005 to 2009, he would have lost the same way that Oscar De La Hoya did.
Mayweather has shown that she doesn’t want to fight Pacquiao and current fighters, preferring instead to receive smaller salaries to fight YouTubers, MMA fighters and low-level fighters.
What’s surprising is that he’s still making pretty good money participating in exhibition matches. With that said, it seems that profits are dwindling for Mayweather show fights as fans are said to be less interested in watching these non-fights.
The worrying thing is that Mayweather doesn’t seem to understand that fans are losing interest.
