Manika Gamble recently became the first black woman to conquer a 155-mile race in Namibia!
PERFUME reports that the seasoned athlete was successful despite the pain she endured while running through the desert.

Manika Gamble is a 33-year-old marathon runner from America. She is currently training to run 255 miles through the Namib Desert. In this case, she was required to run 255 miles in the Namibian desert, the oldest desert in the world. Furthermore, the race is self-supporting.
“It was quite a distance compared to sprinting, but the joy I felt was boundless,” Manika shared. “Ultramarathons help me immerse myself in nature, where I can feel the fresh air and immediately feel at home while running.”
Moreover, she also told PERFUME, “I was inspired when I saw a YouTube video depicting a race in Namibia that looked beautiful and challenging. It combined everything I wanted to take on, so I decided to go for it.”
Furthermore, she also shared the pain she endured during the race.
“My sneaker laces broke on the first day so my feet got blisters on the first day, which was very difficult for me to get through. I could not have prepared myself for that pain,” Gamble said.
The runner said that during the race, she told herself she would never do that again, but after a few days, she changed her mind. Manika is now looking forward to her next challenge.
Thousands of people worldwide have shown support for Manika’s achievement. The notable athlete shared how she prepared for the difficult race on social media, going through intense training. Additionally, she shared the clothes she’ll wear for her big race and highlighted her experience in Africa. Furthermore, she shared why she wanted to take on the unimaginable challenge.

The Namibian native was delighted to see Manika become the first black woman to complete the race.
