Man dies after getting stuck inside New York bakery’s walk-in freezer | US News



A man has died after being found unconscious inside a freezer at a New York bakery.

According to the US press, the 33-year-old man was cleaning the freezer when he accidentally locked himself inside around 3am.

He was found more than five hours later.

ABC News reported that he came from Mali to the US and is the father of five children.

A colleague of his said the man had been working at the bakery – Beigel’s in Brooklyn – for three months.

In a statement, David Greenberger, director of Beigel’s Bakery, said: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of staff in this accident.

“The family has been informed and we extend our deepest condolences to them.

“Grievance counselors are on site to offer advice and support to our families and staff.

“This is an ongoing situation and we are cooperating with all investigations. We have no further comment at this time.”

Police say the manner and cause of the victim’s death are still unknown.

Beigel’s in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Its customers include airlines, hotels and other businesses.
