The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Wednesday imposed penalties totaling more than Rs. 392 cases accuse online travel agencies MakeMyTrip, Goibibo and hotel service provider Oyo for unfair business practices.
Among others, there are allegations that MMT-Go has imposed parity prices in their agreements with hotel partners. Under such agreements, hotel partners are not allowed to sell their rooms on any other platform or on their own online portal for less than the price being offered on the two platforms. unit.
Besides imposing the penalties, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) directed MMT-Go to “appropriately amend its agreements with hotels/hotel chains to remove/dismiss price parity and availability obligations it imposes on its hotel/chain partners with respect to other OTAs (Online Travel Agents)”.
In addition, the CCI asked it to amend the agreements to remove certain exclusivity conditions.
“MMT-Go is aimed to provide access to its platform on a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory basis to hotels/hotel chains, by formulating terms and the platform’s listing conditions objectively,” it added.
It is also alleged that MMT has favored Oyo on its platform, which has resulted in denial of market access to other players.
The regulator requested a detailed investigation into the matter in October 2019.
MakeMyTrip (MMT) acquired Ibibo Group Holding in 2017. MMT continues to run its hotel and package business through MMT India under the MakeMyTrip brand, and Ibibo India under the Goibibo brand.
