Its Maika Monroe It’s season, people. Actress to star in new Paramount movie + Other significantpremieres October 7. The film follows a young couple, Ruth and Harry, on a remote backpacking trip across the Pacific Northwest, and things quickly take a dark turn. HollywoodLife talked EXCLUSIVELY to Maika about what makes her attractive Other significant.
“Previously I worked with directors on a movie called Villain, and I had an amazing time working with them. So when they came to me with their next project, I was so excited and just hoping that I would love the script. I read it and almost loved it [and] fell in love with this role. It’s like a mix of these different genres, which seems incredibly challenging but also quite fun,” said Maika.
Other significant was shot on location in Oregona, which Maika calls “the dream”. The It tracks the star added, “You’re showing up to set up every day and in the craziest, most beautiful setting. We’re really out there, which means some nights shoot until 6 a.m. and it’s raining like pour the water and you might freeze, but you’re all in it together.”
Maika co-stars with Emmy nominee Jake Lacy, who plays Harry. After Maika signed the contract, she discussed with the directors who would be suitable for the role of Harry. “There are a lot of layers to it, so you need someone who can get the grounding, funny but also scary, all different things without having to give too much away,” revealed Maika. “I thought Jake’s name came up, and recently I saw White Lotus, and I just said, ‘Oh, he’s perfect for this. This role was written for him. ‘ Like, I can hear his voice and his comedic timing fits this very well. So I just said, ‘Oh my God, I hope that he likes it and moves on.’ We are so lucky to have him.”
In addition to the main role in the film, Maika is also an executive producer. She admitted that she “definitely” wants to be a director one day. “That’s what I’m starting to get into. It is always an interest, but I still have a lot to learn. But I’m definitely interested in behind-the-scenes, like working from scratch on a project,” said Maika HollywoodLife.
Maika has a knack for not picking easy roles, and she’s carved her niche in the horror and thriller genre with films like Other significant, It tracksand Followers. “I cannot control what is sent to me, but I do control what I choose to do. I review every project I’ve worked on and I really feel like I’ve grown a lot from it all. Challenging myself is very important and definitely something that comes to mind. Especially with this project, it was a huge challenge,” said Maika.
