Mahindra XUV700 vs Toyota Fortuner race: price, engine, performance
The Toyota has more torque, but the Mahindra is well priced when it comes to power-to-weight ratio. So which SUV wins the quarter-mile race?

Common ground between a Mahindra XUV700 gasoline and a Toyota Fortuner Legendary diesel engine? Both these 7-seater SUVs have 200hp and to find out which is faster, we’ll pit them against each other in a 402.34m race.
The XUV700’s 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine automatically produces 200 hp and 380 Nm of torque; and its front wheels are driven by a 6-speed automatic transmission. Fortuner Legender’s 2.8-liter diesel engine produces 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque; and its 6-speed torque converter drives the rear wheels (in 4×2). So while Toyota has a clear advantage on paper, being the ladder-frame construction, it’s 333kg heavier than the monolithic XUV700.

When the light turned green, both cars sped off at the same time, but the Fortuner took the lead in the first few meters. Initially, the XUV700’s front tires struggled to grip the road, but once traction was achieved, its turbocharged petrol engine’s relentless performance continued to outpace the Fortuner’s, increasing the distance to the finish line and finish. race 1/4 mile in 16.62 seconds – a full lap second faster than the Fortuner.
In the second race, the XUV’s debut went much more smoothly and from the start it trailed big Toyota, taking the lead in 16.59 seconds – this time leading 1.12 seconds.
Incidentally, the XUV700 happened to be the fastest automatic petrol car at Rs 20 lakh in our quarter mile drag races, which is better Tata Nexon tramDiesel XUV700 and even VW’s 1.5 TSI cars.
