Mahindra XUV400 EC and EL: Which variant should you buy

Mahindra has finally launched the much-awaited compact electric SUV XUV400 for around $15.99-18.99 lakh (former showroom), this is the introductory price that applies to the first 5,000 reservations of each vehicle variant. Mahindra XUV400 comes in two different variants – EC and EL. EC is available in two charger options – 3.3 kW and 7.2 kW, priced at $15.99 lakh and $16.49 lakh (old gallery).
The compact SUV comes in a segment where Tata Motors dominates with the Nexon EV. In addition, MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona EV are also positioned in the same segment. Mahindra aims to sell 20,000 XUV400 units in its first year of launch. Clearly, however, it won’t be easy for the homegrown SUV specialist to grab a slice of the pie in this category. In fact, Mahindra will have to work very hard to get a remarkable position in the segment.

The Mahindra XUV400 will be available for pre-order in 34 cities across India from January 26, 2023. Deliveries will commence from March 2023 for the EL, while deliveries of the EC variants are expected. Ants will start during Diwali this year. Mahindra XUV400 EC
The Mahindra XUV400 EC is the lower-end variant of the electric SUV and is available with two different charger options – 3.3 kW and 7.2 kW. These things have a price $15.99 lakh and $16.49 lakh (old gallery), respectively. In terms of design, the EC version has MFR halogen headlights, KLED taillights, door sill panels, R16 steel wheels, wheel arches and spoiler, among others.
Inside the cabin, the XUV400 EC has fabric seats, height-adjustable seat belts, 4-way adjustable driver’s seat, 60:40 split second row seats, electrically adjustable ORVM, single-zone manual climate control, etc. with multiple driving modes and connected car technology. EC has City Assist technology named L-mode.
On the safety front, the Mahindra XUV400 EC has disc brakes on all four wheels, ISOFIX for child seats, PAB off switch and three-point seat belts. The EC offers a range of 375 km on a single charge, charged by a 34.5 kWh battery pack that works in tandem with an electric motor that produces 150 PS and 310 Nm of torque.
Mahindra XUV400 EL
Mahindra XUV400 EL is the flagship variant of the compact electric SUV and is priced $18.99 lakh (old gallery). The EL variant has many additional design elements and features that surpass the EC model. Vehicles equipped with projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, R16 alloy wheels with diamond cut, roof rails and door panels on the outside.
Moving inside the cabin, Mahindra XUV400 EL is equipped with imitation leather seats, electric sunroof with anti-clamp function, height-adjustable driver’s seat, rear windshield wiper and washer, rear windscreen. , armrests for the front and rear passengers with integrated storage, etc. The EL variant has a 17.38 cm touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features include a foldable and electrically adjustable ORVM, automatic headlights and wipers, smart meter connectivity and passive keyless entry at the push of a button.
Adding to cabin safety are features like side and curtain airbags, follow me home headlights and a reversing camera with adaptive guidance. In terms of powertrain and performance, the EL offers a range of 456 km on a single charge. It draws power from a more powerful 39.4 kWh battery pack combined with an electric motor, producing 150 PS of peak power and 310 Nm of peak torque.
