Maharashtra Cops Restrained By High Court From Showing “Terrorists” As Muslims In Drills

Bombay High Court’s Aurangabad Court in a temporary order restricted the police from conducting mock drills in which officers posing as terrorists were shown to belong to a particular community.

The Supreme Court is hearing a public interest lawsuit (PIL) filed by activist Sayed Usama alleging that fake drills conducted by the police department depict costumes and slogans. to indicate that the terrorists are Muslims.
A bench of Judges Mangesh Patil and AS Chapalgaonkar on February 3 directed the prosecutor to present to the court the principles of organizing mock drills.
The petitioners argue that such mock drills show bias and prejudice against the Muslim community, and send the message that terrorists belong only to a particular religion.
PIL made an exception for three mock drills held in Ahmednagar, Chandrapur and Aurangabad districts where policemen, who acted as terrorists in mock drills, dressed up as men from the community. Muslim community.
