Magnolia assistant Johnny Abarrientos fined P10K for dirty finger at Converge import Jamaal Franklin

MANILA, Philippines — Magnolia assistant coach Johnny Abarrientos was fined P10,000 after an obscene gesture towards Converge imported Jamaal Franklin during Sunday’s Governors’ doubles match at the Ynares Center in the City. Antipolo.
Commissioner Willie Marcial said that Abarrientos, one of the PBA’s greatest players, deeply regrets the incident that was televised.
“He’s said sorry many times,” the league chief told the Inquirer by phone.
Hotshots, the last club to win the Governors Cup outside of Barangay Ginebra in the last 5 years, lost to Converge, 111-109.
For his part, Franklin, an NBA veteran who helped Converge win two of his last three to start the league, was undeterred by the episode.
“I think they got a little angry with the three I made while I made three fouls. But that has nothing to do with me. It’s with the referee,” he said after a 26-point performance and 13 rebounds.
He even goes as far as to compliment his enemies.
“Me and the coaches have no problem. I take my hat off to them,” Franklin added of the Hotshots, who took the lead in 111-109 with 30 ticks left in the competition.
“They have a good team. They have a really, really great coach, a great system and they play well together.”
