LPGA cancels China tournament again due to COVID-19
For the fourth year in a row, the COVID-19 pandemic will prevent the LPGA from hosting a tournament in China.
The LPGA on Tuesday night announced that it will not be hosting the Blue Bay LPGA in March in the Chinese island of Hainan.
LPGA Blue Bay 2023, originally scheduled for March 9-12, has been canceled following the instructions of our partners, the China Golf Association, due to COVID-related issues -19 is ongoing, the LPGA said in a statement. “We thank Hainan Greentown Blue Bay, China Golf Association, CLPGA and IMG for all their efforts and look forward to returning to Hainan in 2024.”
When the coronavirus outbreak in China made global news in January 2020, the LPGA canceled the Blue Bay LPGA before the pandemic brought sports and other parts of life to a halt. .
The tournament is also not being held in 2019 amid the LPGA’s changing schedule, meaning it will be absent for at least 5 years. Mexico’s Gaby Lopez won the event in 2018.
