Louisiana Downs appoints Mitch Dennison as Racing General Manager

Mitch Dennison of Louisville has been appointed general manager of racing at the Louisiana Downs. Dennison will oversee races, mutiny, grassroots projects and sponsorships at the Bossier City racetrack and casino.

Dennison has been an assistant to Steve Asmussen Hall of Fame for the past 13 years, overseeing chains at Ellis Park and the Louisiana Downs. He was also affiliated with the D. Wayne Lukas warehouse in the past. Despite his experience at the back of the track, Dennison said he has his eye on track management.

“I have been active in both the Kentucky and Louisiana Protection and Benevolence Associations (HBPA) for many years,” says Dennison. “Understanding the concerns of riders is vital and essential to racecourse management. Kevin [Preston, owner of Louisiana Downs] was new to racing, but immediately recognized that. I have never been more excited to work in this industry! ”

The Louisiana Downs Thoroughbred Encounter begins on Kentucky Derby Day. The 84-day live racing season will run from Saturday to Tuesday through September 27.

“Mitch is incredibly knowledgeable and shares my commitment to showing respect to each rider and their workers and ensuring the safety and integrity of racing,” said Preston. ours. “I like his energy and look forward to a very successful racing season.”
