Loud blast, shots near China guest house in Afghan capital

KABUL: A loud explosion and gunfire were heard in the Afghan capital on Monday near a guesthouse popular with Chinese business travelers, a witness said.

“It was a very loud bang and then there was a lot of gunfire,” the witness told AFP, while local media reported similar details.
Security officials were not immediately available for comment on the blast, which occurred in Shahr-e-naw, one of Kabul’s main commercial areas.
A significant number of Chinese businessmen have visited Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power, and Beijing maintains a full embassy even without officially recognizing the regime.
