Lotus flower has established a new special operations division called Lotus Advanced Performance – and it will enter the market with a big bang. This teaser image shows that the company’s first project will be a modern-day Can-Am race car.
Although the iconic British marque has never been in the Can-Am race series, it has plans for a car in the late 60s (which will probably be called the Type 66) to rival compete for the championship. This new Lotus Advanced Performance project reinterprets many classic Can-Am cues for the modern era.
This official teaser image previews the vehicle’s styling. Continuing the tradition of the Can-Am, it has a large wing, fat rear tires and a simple roll ring to protect the driver. There’s also a pair of exhaust pipes protruding from the rear bumper and a set of polished air intakes that protrude from the center of the car, suggesting it will be powered by a petrol engine.
While Can-Am cars are known for their naturally aspirated, high-displacement V8s, Lotus’ recent road and motorsport offerings are all powered by inline 4 or V6 engines, so it remains unclear whether this first LAP car will be powered by an eight-cylinder engine for added authenticity.
The British marque hasn’t revealed any details about the car’s performance, pricing or production numbers, although it will almost certainly be quick and in limited production.
Lotus flower Advanced Performance also plans to offer a range of other services beyond the halo projects, such as its debut machine shown in the image above. The affiliate will produce limited editions of Lotus production cars along with offering a wide range of customization options. Lotus Advanced Performance also aims to help its customers with driver training, as well as offering branded merchandise and a wide range of car accessories. It will also support Lotus’ motorsport efforts, helping to deliver the brand’s racing cars (such as the Emira GT4) around the world.
