Sir Mo Farah withdrew from the TCS London Marathon on Sunday due to a hip injury.

The four-time Olympic and six-time world champion trained well and won The Big Half in London earlier this month, but recently suffered a hip injury and despite being treated aggressively, unfit to play on Sunday.

“I’ve been training really hard over the past few months and I’m back in good shape and feel pretty optimistic about being able to do well at the TCS London Marathon,” Farah said in a statement.

“However, over the past 10 days, I have been feeling pain and tightness in my right hip. I have received comprehensive treatment and health care and did everything to be able to be at the starting line but it still hasn’t happened yet. improved enough to compete Sunday.

“It’s really disappointing to have to withdraw after the last few months and after my win at The Big Half, but also because I love racing in front of my home audience in London, who have always been great supporters. for all of us athletes.

“I wish everyone involved a smooth Sunday and I hope to be back there with you guys in April 2023.”

Hugh Brasher, Events Manager of the TCS London Marathon, said: “We regret that Sir Mo was not fit to run on Sunday. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him run. TCS London Marathon 2023 next April.”
