Live Updates: 7 Dead in Shooting in Half Moon Bay

Seven people were shot dead Monday afternoon in San Mateo County, California, the sheriff’s office said, the second mass shooting in the state in three days.
The shooting happened around 2:20 p.m. local time at two separate locations near Highway 92 and the Half Moon Bay city line, about 30 miles south of San Francisco, authorities said. Another person was transported to Stanford Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
One suspect, Zhao Chunli, 67, of Half Moon Bay, was found in his car in the parking lot of the Half Moon Bay sheriff’s office substation, San County Sheriff’s Office Mateo said.
The sheriff’s office said in a statement: “Chunli was taken into custody without incident and the weapon was in his vehicle. “There are currently no outstanding threats to the community.”
“The motive for the shooting is currently unknown,” the sheriff’s office said. A press conference has been scheduled for Monday night.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said it was “responding to a shooting with multiple victims” shortly before 4 p.m. Authorities were dispatched to block 12700 of Cabrillo Highway.
A family reunion center has been established at IDES Hall in Half Moon Bay, on Main Street.
The shooting came two days after 11 people were killed at a Lunar New Year Festival in Monterey Park, Calif. Officials call it the deadliest mass shooting in Los Angeles County history.
Officials lamented continued violence Monday afternoon.
Marc Berman, a California congressman, said: “Two hours ago, I went with my colleagues to the steps of the Capitol to pray for the victims of the Monterey Park shooting. say on Twitter. “Before we had a chance to mourn them, there was another mass shooting — this time in Crescent Bay. Governor Gavin Newsom said on Twitter that he went to the hospital to meet with victims of “a mass shooting as I was being dragged away to report another shooting.”
“Tragedy on top of tragedy,” Mr. Newsom said.
Karine Jean-Pierre, White House press secretary, said on Twitter that President Biden was briefed by his Homeland Security adviser about the shooting.
