He is a three-time world title challenger, inferior to Nicholas Walters and Oscar Valdez in featherweight and Vasiliy Lomachenko in an August 2017 bid for the WBO lightweight lightweight crown. Marriaga is 5-2 since Lomachenko and is back in featherweight after a decisive loss last December to lightweight rival Eduardo Ramirez.
