Four people were seriously injured when lightning struck near the White House Thursday night during a storm, according to the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department.
Lightning struck just before 7 p.m. in Lafayette Park, across from the White House. Two men and two women were taken to hospital, all with “serious life-threatening injuries,” DC Fire and EMS said in a tweet.
Spokesman Vito Maggiolo said the lightning strike was witnessed by members of the US Secret Service and US Park Police who responded at the scene.
Parts of the DC metro area were under a severe thunderstorm warning Thursday night, according to National Weather Service.
