LeBron James Hints His Final Year In The NBA Will Be Playing With Son Bronny

LeBron James’s retirement from the National Basketball League will be global news when the time comes. His contract with the Los Angeles Lakers will end after the 2022-2023 season, each CBS Sports. Both freedom and a return to his original team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, could be on the table. And while LeBron told The Athletic he doesn’t “know what” [his] future holds, he has some sort of plan. He also told the publication that the league won’t see him in his final year until he plays alongside his son LeBron James Jr., also known as Bronny.

LeBron’s retirement plans

“My final year will be playing with my son,” LeBron tell Jason Lloyd about The Athletic. “Wherever Bronny is, that’s where I’ll be. I will do whatever it takes to play with my son for a year. At that point, it was not about money.”

It’s unclear what direction the basketball guard plans to take after his high school graduation. He is currently attending Sierra Canyon School in California as a student. According to NBA rules, players are not allowed to jump straight into the league after graduating from high school. Instead, they must play at least one college season or other form of professional football.

In 2019, however, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said the top high school players may qualify to enter into the 2022 draft. Apparently, they had “actively discussed” amending rule one and do, which is a policy that prevents high school players from qualifying for the draft. Currently, Bronny may qualify for the NBA Draft in 2024. However, if this policy is amended in time, LeBron and Bronny could face each other on the NBA field as early as 2023.

Possibility of a return to the Cleveland Cavaliers

Talk to The Athletic, LeBron also revealed that he doesn’t want to return to the Cavaliers. If he goes that route, it will be his third time playing with his hometown team.

“The door doesn’t close,” LeBron said. “I’m not saying I’m going to come back and play, I don’t know. I don’t know what my future will be. I don’t even know when I’m free.”
