Michele confirmed she was cast as a surrogate with a post shared on social media – a Funny Girl poster of herself and Tovah Feldshuh, who will take on the role of Fanny’s mother Rose Brice from Jane Lynch.
Michele was previously rumored to be reprising the role initially after performing many of the show’s songs during her time on the Glee series from 2009 to 2015.
Feldstein wrote in her withdrawal announcement: “Once the producers decided to take the show in a different direction, I made the extremely difficult decision to leave earlier than expected.

However, an article on Gawker suggested that the Booksmart actress was disqualified after a series of bad reviews.
After that, rumors swirled that Beanie had covered the producers’ eyes when she told fans she was leaving earlier than they planned.
Speaking to People, a joint statement from Feldstein’s reps and the Funny Girl producer said: ‘The producers of Funny Girl were not blindsided by Beanie’s social media post.
‘The producers decided to take the show in a different direction and ended Beanie’s contract on September 25, six months earlier than planned. A month after that decision, Beanie decided it was best for her to leave on July 31. The producers knew and supported her decision. ‘
