Former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt won the US Senate primaries on Tuesday. He will face Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto in one of the closely watched races in November.

Adam Laxalt, the former Nevada attorney general, won the Republican U.S. Senate primary in the state on Tuesday, according to a race from the Associated Press.
He will take over from incumbent Senator Catherine Cortez Masto in November a high stakes race as Democrats try to maintain their slim majority in the senate.
Laxalt was the leader in polls that continued through the preliminary polls and beat several others, led by businessman and retired Army Captain Sam Brown.
In recent weeks, Brown has begun to recognize steam, and has offended Laxalt in small dollar donations, but Laxalt’s support from former President Donald Trump and other notable Republicans like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis helped propel him to the top.
He also enjoys relatively strong name recognition, as the grandson of a former Nevada senator, Paul Laxalt, and has previously served in a statewide position. Laxalt also failed to run for governor in 2018 while he was serving as attorney general.
Laxalt, who served as Nevada’s co-chair during Trump’s 2020 campaign, is an outspoken supporter of Trump’s lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
After the presidential election, Laxalt went on to say that the results were rigged and that legal challenges against the election, which he helped lead, were unsuccessful because they were submitted too late.
Last week, Trump held a call with Laxalt supporters and stressed the need for his chosen candidate; in the call, Laxalt introduce for Trump as the current president.
With November coming up, Republicans are keeping an eye on some potential win in Nevada, President Biden of the state won in 2020 by just over 2 percentage points. In addition to the Senate race, Republicans have a strong chance to oust Democrats from three congressional seats and the governor’s office, while also winning a public secretary of state race.
Based on Report from Politico, the National Republican Senatorial Committee spent $3 million on advertising for Nevada, but its Democratic counterpart, DSCC, spent nearly three times that amount.
