Lawrence Okolie reacts to being booed as he returns to the ring

Lawrence Okolie reacted to boos that could be heard from fans during his successful defense of his world title against David Light at Manchester Arena last night.

Despite the comeback with the victory, it was not Okolie’s most impressive performance and much of the war was a very messy one.

Speaking at press conference after the game‘The Sauce’ assured the media in attendance that although he heard boos, they had no effect on him in the ring.

“Of course [I heard them]. Nothing affects me when I’m in the ring with someone trying to knock me out. This is a sport where you can die at any moment! So I don’t care about anything other than crushing my opponent and winning.”

“It is a learning curve and an ongoing journey. But does anyone dare to hit me? Or even land a shot?

“I want to show more impressive performances, but this takes time. I’m an undefeated world champion, I’ve changed my life and I’m very happy where I am.”

The match is Okolie’s debut under the Boxxer banner, and promoter Ben Shalom they are hoping for an outstanding knockout.

Talkative London derby against Richard Riakhpore could be Okolie’s next gameor potentially a unification match against IBF world champion Jai Opetaia.

Also discussed about Okolie was his fight with old stablemate Chris Billam Smith, who will fight at Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth on May 27.

Both have trained under Shane McGuigan, however Okolie has admitted that he would not be opposed to locking horns with Billam Smith if given the opportunity.
