LastPass Face Data Breach; Company says No password used: Details
LastPass, a password manager used by more than 33 million people, was hacked after an unauthorized party recently stole the company’s source code and proprietary information by cracking the developer environment. . LastPass has made sure it doesn’t believe any passwords were used as part of the breach, and that users won’t need to take any further action to secure their accounts. Password managers have also confirmed that their products and services are working properly.
Password Manager says in blog post that some unusual activity has recently been detected in parts of the LastPass development environment. As mentioned earlier, the company says that there is no evidence that the incident involved any access to customer data or encrypted password vaults.
LastPass concluded that an unauthorized party gained access to portions of the LastPass development environment through a compromised developer account. This gave hackers access to parts of the source code and some of LastPass’ proprietary technical information.
As mentioned earlier, LastPass has ensured that their products and services are working properly so far.
Karim Toubba, CEO of LastPass, said that in response to the incident, the company has implemented prevention and mitigation measures. LastPass has also engaged a leading cybersecurity and forensics company to do the same. The password manager has also achieved containment status and is said to have no further evidence of unauthorized activity.
