Formula One will return to Las Vegas next year with racing taking place on the famous Las Vegas Strip.

The Grand prix will be held on a Saturday night in November, likely around Thanksgiving, with the track sweeping past some of the city’s most legendary landmarks, hotels and casinos.

Design a 3.8-mile track from start to finish with an estimated top speed of over 212 mph.

There will be 50 laps with three main straights and 14 turns, including a high-speed cornering sequence and a single complex section.

Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 president and chief executive officer, said: “This is an incredible moment for Formula 1, demonstrating the immense appeal and growth of our sport. me with the third race in the US.

“Las Vegas is a destination known around the world for its excitement, hospitality, thrills and, of course, the famous Strip.

“There is no better place for a Formula 1 race than in the global entertainment capital of the world and we can’t wait to be here next year.”

Neon nights in Las Vegas will be the backdrop for the third race of F1 in the US alongside Miami and the Texas Grands Prix.

Vegas previously hosted the two biggest F1s in the 1980s, but instead of the Strip, they took place in the parking lot of the Caesars Palace hotel.

Last week Domenicali told Sky Sports F1’s Martin Brundle that Africa could also host races in the future, with the calendar set to evolve.

F1 is set for a record 23 races this year but the current Concorde Agreement, in effect until 2025, allows for 24 races per season.

South Africa’s Kyalami circuit – where Lewis Hamilton recently confirmed his return to F1 – last hosted a race in 1993 and has been brought up as an option.

“Beyond the US, above China, I think there is a possibility that it will soon appear in Africa,” Domenicali said.

“There’s a lot of interest there. It’s certainly another area that has so far been lacking in our geography.”
