Largest ever haul of cannabis seized by police in Spain | World News
The biggest ever haul of cannabis was seized by Spanish police.
A total of 32 tonnes of packaged cannabis with a street value of at least 64 million euros (£56 million) were discovered.
Spain’s civil protection force said it was the largest amount ever found domestically or internationally.
Police raided a series of farms and manufacturing plants across Spain in an operation called Gardens. Nine men and 11 women, aged between 20 and 59, were arrested.
In a statement, Spain’s Civil Guard said it had “seized the largest cache of packaged cannabis found to date”.
“It equates to about 1.1 million trees,” it added.
Police said the gang dried cannabis plants, packed them and sent them to parts of Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands,
Germany and Belgium.
The gang was detained in Toledo, Ciudad Real, Valencia and Asturias last month but details of the operation were only made public on Saturday.
