Langya virus infects 35 people in China: Know the signs and symptoms of this novel virus


A virus known as the “langya virus” or LayV has been found in China. According to state media, Global Times, the virus, believed to be a novel, has infected 35 people.

Citing a research paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) by scientists from China and Singapore, media reports said, “A Henipavirus of origin The new animal (also known as Langya henipavirus, LayV) that can infect humans was found in Shandong Province, Eastern China and Henan Province, Central China, and has so far infected humans. 35 people in two provinces.”

The research paper titled “A Zoonotic Henipavirus in febrile patients in China” states, “In this report, investigators in China identified a novel henipavirus associated with febrile illness in China. This virus is also found in shrews.”
