Lamar Jackson, Ravens ‘motivated’ to sign extension

Arizona Cardinals’ Kyler Murray recently became the latest quarterback to sign big money this season and is now joining agree reported to bring in an average annual value of $46.1 million. Denver Broncos signal caller Russell Wilson could soon put pen to paper on an extension of his own.

Meanwhile, Baltimore Ravens star defender Lamar Jackson remains in his rookie final year contract and continue to act as an agent for its own negotiations. Both Ravens head coaches John Harbaugh and Jackson addressed the situation when speaking to reporters on Thursday and sounded optimistic that a deal could be done sooner rather than later.

“I can talk to both sides and both sides are very motivated to get the job done,” Harbaugh explains in Press Conferencethrough the Myles Simmons by Pro Football Talk. “And so I feel like it’s like being in that place. But Lamar is practicing all day, so it’s not like they’re going to negotiate all day as if they were in a normal situation. So that’s it. is part of dealing with that.”

Meanwhile, the 2019 NFL Most Valuable Player added that he thinks the parties could agree a long-term deal before Week 1 in September.

“I think so. I think so. I think so. We’ll have to see,” Jackson commented, according to Sarah Ellison of “Ravens Vault” (h / t Charean Williams of PFT). “There will probably be a cutoff at some point… So hopefully it is.”

It is assumed that Raven will use the franchise card early next year to retain Jackson’s rights for at least the 2023 season if absolutely necessary. Logic suggests both the player and the club want to avoid that prospect by signing an extension this summer.
