LaLiga honors PBA, PFF as ‘heroes off the pitch’
The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and Gawad Kalinga were recognized by Spain’s top soccer league during an event held on Thursday at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City. .
La Liga honored these three organizations along with their partners during the Heroes Off the Field Awards for their charitable projects in various communities around the country.
Almudena Gomez, the Philippine representative of La Liga, led the organization of the event “honoring the outstanding achievements of individuals and organizations in the Philippine sports industry that have contributed to the community.”
PBA was hailed by La Liga as the best community project in basketball after participating in the refurbishment of the Daungan Cuatro Project in Navotas City with the help of Tiktok and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
The Pinay5 & Liga Eskwela project by PFF in association with the Moran Foundation and the MVP Sports Foundation has received support in the field of women’s football.
A check on the Moran Foundation’s website describes Liga Eskwela as “a program to encourage and support underprivileged children through sport, while helping to develop futsal in public elementary schools across the Philippines. “
Project Sports Team Leader: Aware of Climate Change Through Football by Gawad Kalinga with the US Embassy received the best community project award for men’s soccer.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial and Philippine Azkals legend James Younghusband were among the notable figures who attended the awards ceremonies.
